Arise Mauritania has advanced to perform the Environment & Social Management Plans audit compliance in accordance to the recommendation stipulated under ESIA and International Finance Corporation Performance Standards guidelines for the construction of the container and hydrocarbon terminal at the Port of Nouakchott. Also, we are making suitable steps for the operational preparedness to be in compliant to the highest industry standards.
ARISE completed the EIA during last quarter of 2018 and obtained the approval on Environment from ministry of environment (Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development) in Feb’19. In parallel to the EIA, an ESIA complying to IFC PS, was also undertaken and public consultation was organized on 25th April 2019 and the studies were publicly disclosed from May to July 2019 before the start of the construction. The whole of documents was put to public access on May 2019 to closure of comments by July 2019.
To continue, monitoring regime is established and tracked for the all the Environment & Social Management Plans developed as per the recommendation of the ESIA, IFC PS and international standards. The same is backed up with regular interactions with the key stakeholders and Stakeholder Engagement meetings in a planned periodic manner.
A grievance mechanism is also in place completely aligned to the International Finance Corporation guidelines.
