The construction of the Container Terminal of Nouakchott, which started in March 2019, will be developed in 2 steps:
- The first step begins with the construction of a quay of 570 meters long. Followed by the construction of a 22 Ha container park that will accommodate all types of transported containers. It will be equipped with 2 STS cranes, 4 RTG cranes, a reachstacker, and 3 warehouses of 10,000 m² each, powered by solar panels.
This first stage will end with the dredging of 15 meters deep and the extension of the current navigation channel to approximately 8 km length which will allow the arrival of 50,000 DWT container ships from 2021.
- The second stage will involve additional dredging and the installation of new cranes to allow the arrival of 80,000-tons DWT.
The new state of the art terminal will be equipped with advanced equipment to increase handling capacity of the port.
